Furniture Maker

Bio

Steve Brown is a custom furniture maker on the North Shore of Boston. He graduated from the North Bennet St. School Cabinet and Furniture making program in ’90, taught in the Workshop program for 10 years and in the full-time program for 21 years.
He worked with Phil Lowe CF ’74 at Makers of Fine Furniture in Beverly, MA, between graduating and returned to teach in the full-time program 1999.

His work can be seen in galleries, museums and private collections.

He has lectured and demonstrated for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Winterthur Museum in Delaware, Historic New England, Old Sturbridge Village, among others.

In addition to several articles for Fine Woodworking magazine, he co-wrote an article with Will Neptune titled, “Classical Proportioning In Eighteenth Century American Design in the 2017 American Furniture journal.

Steve worked as the technical advisor to the Rough Cut show hosted by NBSS graduate Tom MacDonald on WGBH in Boston and appeared in a number of the episodes as a guest.

Steve has a BA in Philosophy from Gordon College in Wenham, MA.
He lives in Manchester by the Sea, MA with his wife Peggy and 2 sons, Jake and Noah.
